2020 ATP Roland Garros fantasy tennis: Jarry continues stunning run into Round of 16
CHILEAN qualifier Nicolas Jarry became the lone unseeded player through to the Round of 16 at the 2020 ATP Roland Garros fantasy tennis tournament after half the draw was completed today. Jarry won through in a five set match against fellow unseeded player, American Sam Querrey, whilst the seven other winners on day seven were seeds. Jarry defeated Querrey 5-7 6-4 6-2 0-6 6-1 in a huge contest, whilst fellow unseeded players, Guido Pella and Mikael Ymer were both eliminated from competition in the third round.
Pella bowed out at the hands of third seed Austrian Dominic Thiem, whilst Ymer lost out in his match against seventh seed German, Alexander Zverev. Thiem won 6-1 6-2 6-4 over the unseeded Argentinian, whilst Zverev also had a straight sets win, 6-4 7-5 6-2 over the up and comer Ymer. It was much easier for world number one Novak Djokokic who toppled 28th seed Pole Hubert Hurkacz with a 6-4 6-2 6-4 triumph, whilst 12th seed Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut took down his compatriot in Pablo Carreno Busta, 7-5 6-2 6-3.
The remaining matches went at least four sets, as 2020 big improvers Filip Krajinovic and Nikoloz Basilashvili locked horns for a third time with Krajinovic emerging victorious, 6-2 6-3 4-6 7-5 in that match. In one of the predicted matches of the day, British Grand Slam winner Andy Murray came from behind to oust 13th seed Italian Matteo Berrettini, winning 5-7 6-2 6-4 6-4.
Murray and Jarry were the only two players to drop the first set only to come back and win against their respective opponents. In the final match of the day, 16th seed Russian Karen Khachanov again survived a scare, this time toppling 23rd seed Canadian Milos Raonic in five sets. Khachanov won 6-3 4-6 6-1 4-6 7-5 to book a spot in the next round.
The Round of 32 completes tomorrow with top 10 seeds, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Diego Schwartzman, Gael Monfils and Stan Wawrinka all on court in the top half of the draw.
